DFO advises that the mackerel fixed gear (gillnets and traps) in a portion of Fortune Bay will close at 6 p.m., Tuesday, September 29, 2009 until further notice.

The specific portion of Fortune Bay to be closed is east of a line extending from Cape Mille (47 deg 36.038 min N; 54 deg 52.584 min W) across to Black Point (47 deg 35.377 min N; 54 deg 57.201 min W). All fishing gear must be removed from the water by closing time.

This closure is due to a significant amount of lobster bycatch.
